Anyone who lives off their own work — photographer, electrician, designer, private tutor, dressmaker — reaches the same conclusion early: a social-media profile is not enough. A profile disappears into the feed, does not show up in search and belongs to the platform.
What the site needs, and nothing more
Three things. Who you are and what you do, in a sentence anyone understands without effort. Real work, with good photographs — nothing convinces like a result. And how to reach you, visible on every page, with no complicated form.
The rest is optional. A lean site that is live pays better than a perfect site that never gets finished.
Choosing where to build it
Ready-made platforms handle this with no programming. The practical difference between them is smaller than it looks; choose the one you can operate on your own, because you will need to.
An address that is yours
It is worth registering your own domain, even on the cheapest plan. yourname.com gives a different impression and, above all, it is yours: if you change platform one day, the address goes with you and you do not lose what you built.
The part nobody warns you about
A published site is not a found site. Publishing tells nobody — not even the search engines. Set aside the same weekend for the basics of promotion: a title on each page with the words people type, a Google Business Profile, and a presence in the search sites of your field.
That last step is the slowest by hand, and the one that keeps working afterwards.
