How to get found on Google for free

Register the site in Search Console, create a Google Business Profile, rewrite your page titles to say what people actually type, and get a few sites to point at yours. None of those steps costs money.

The ordinary Google result — the one below the ads — is free. Nobody pays to be there. What you pay for, when you pay, is speed.

1. Google Search Console

Free, official, and the first step. It tells Google your site exists, shows which searches you already appear for, and points out the errors getting in your way. Twenty minutes to set up.

2. A Google Business Profile

If you serve an area, this gives the fastest return of anything free. It puts you on the map and in local results, often above ordinary sites.

Fill everything in: opening hours, phone, real photos, the area you cover. An incomplete profile shows up less.

3. Titles that say what the page is

Free, takes an afternoon, and has the biggest effect. One term per page, and a term people actually type. If you do not know which ones those are, Search Console shows the searches you already appear for.

4. Content that answers questions

Every question your customers keep asking can become a page that brings visits for years. It does not have to be long — it has to answer.

5. Sites pointing at yours

This is the only one that takes more than your own time, because it depends on other people. The free routes: directories in your field, trade associations, partners, suppliers and customers.

What “free” costs

Time and repetition. All of these work, and none of them keeps working on its own once it has been done a single time. Treat it as a one-day project and you will see nothing.
