“Where should I promote my site” has a long answer and a short one. The short one: where the people who need you are already looking. The long one separates what works from what merely takes up your time.
Works: a Google Business Profile
For any business that serves a region. Free, quick to set up, and the first thing shown for searches with local intent.
Works: search sites and directories in your field
There are specialised search sites in practically every trade. They bring visits and they leave a link pointing at you, which is one of the criteria for who appears first. Two returns for one registration.
Works: social networks, with the link in the profile
The profile is the most stable place. A post has variable reach; the website field stays there for good.
Works: groups and communities
Groups, chat communities, forums in your field. Worth it for as long as you genuinely contribute.
Works: partners
Suppliers, customers, trade associations, the people you recommend and the people who recommend you. The easiest link in the world to get, and the most forgotten.
No longer works: comments on other people’s blogs
Leaving your address in the comment section of other sites was a common technique fifteen years ago. Today those links are marked in a way that transfers no reputation, and the effort does not pay for itself.
Does not work: packages of a thousand links for a low price
A volume of bad links does not help and can hurt. The criterion was never quantity.
